Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer at one of our 22 meal delivery and dining centers across Multnomah, Clark, and Washington counties.

DELIVERY DRIVER

Deliver a week’s worth of meals to homebound older adults and provide a wellness check-in or deliver meals to families through our Meals 4 Kids program. Meals are delivered Monday through Thursday with a pick-up time between 10 a.m. and noon at one of our 22 meal delivery locations. Delivery routes take about one-and-a-half hours to complete. 

*Requirements: Must be 18+ years old, have a driver’s license, car insurance, and your own vehicle. Must be able to lift 25 lbs repetitively and pass a criminal background check. Mileage reimbursement is available. Routes can be done with youth, as long as the adult is the registered volunteer.

MEALS 4 KIDS

Meals 4 Kids is a grant-funded program through the Portland Children’s Levy that delivers bulk food items and meals to families living below the poverty line in the city of Portland. Help us portion bulk food items, pack meals, deliver meals, and clean bags at the Central Kitchen in Multnomah Village. Volunteer shifts are Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Driving routes take two hours and meals can be picked up in Gresham or SW Portland.

*Requirements: Meal delivery requirements are the same as above. All other tasks involve repetitive motions and standing for the duration of the volunteer shift. Must be 14+ with chaperone or 18+ unsupervised.

Meals on Wheels People center volunteerDINING CENTER SUPPORT

Help our congregate dining centers with meal prep, meal packing, dishwashing, greeting, and serving lunch to clients. Volunteer shifts are two to four hours long Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., depending on the role. To view all dining center locations, click here.

*Requirements: Must be 14+ years old with chaperone or 18+ unsupervised. Food Handler Cards preferred for food service roles but not required.

FRIENDLY CHATS

Help alleviate the social isolation that many seniors experience through our Friendly Chats program! Friendly Chats aims to provide socialization and human connection for seniors through weekly friendly chat phone conversations. This volunteer opportunity can be done remotely on your own time Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

*Requirements: Must be 18+ years old and have a smartphone. Must complete a criminal background check. This is a remote volunteer opportunity.

COMMUNITY CONNECTORS

Meals on Wheels People Community Connectors volunteersHelp us get the word out about Meals on Wheels People at tabling events, festivals, and farmers markets. Community Connectors help us with outreach events throughout the year. Volunteer shifts are two to four hours long and are often on evenings and weekends, depending on the event.

*Requirements: Must be 14+ years old with chaperone or 18+ unsupervised. Must complete a criminal background check
